5 Best Midjourney Prompts: June 2023 (The "Cores")
In this month's edition, I explore the "-core" styles and their impact on your images.
Happy Thursday, friends!
June is almost over, so I’m juuuuust making the cut for this month’s edition of the best prompts for Midjourney.
Today I’ll be looking at descriptors that end with “-core.” These prompts tend to have a strong impact because they encompass entire style movements and aesthetics.
Note: All sample images are generated using Midjourney Version 5.2.
Prompt #1: Create a dreamy, surrealist look
Let’s dream together, shall we?
Midjourney prompt: Dreamcore [subject]
What it does: Dreamcore explores the surreal by trying to capture the feeling of dreaming using vibrant colors, weird shapes, and out-of-place objects. Midjourney also likes to add glowing sources of light when you use this term.

Prompt #2: Join the modern anti-minimalists
If you like your stuff clean and neat…this is probably not for you.
Midjourney prompt: Cluttercore [subject]
What it does: Contrary to what the name may suggest, cluttercore isn’t simply about random clutter. Instead, it’s a counter-minimalist movement that involves displaying objects you find meaningful in a way that might look busy but lets you highlight your individualism. “Organized mess” is a pretty good way to describe it.

Prompt #3: Glitter things up
This one’s for anyone who loves shiny objects.
Midjourney prompt: Sparklecore [subject]
What it does: Sparklecore is all about glitter, vibrant colors, and sparkly things. In Midjourney, the term tends to produce busy, lively scenes that are full of life and evoke positive emotions. It’s definitely a “feel good” prompt.

Prompt #4: Explore errors in the Matrix
Glitches happen, so why not introduce them on purpose?
Midjourney prompt: Glitchcore [subject]
What it does: Glitchcore involves ordinary scenes and subjects getting interspersed with random lines, geometrical shapes, flashing patterns, and so on, often reminiscent of the “columns of code” visual from The Matrix.

Prompt #5: Cartoonify your subjects
Everyone loves a good cartoon, so why not turn your scenes into one?
Midjourney prompt: Cartooncore [subject]
What it does: Cartooncore is a bit more specific than just “cartoon.” It usually refers to contemporary Western cartoon aesthetic popularized by shows on Netflix, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and the like. In Midjourney, you often (but not always) get similar results by using “cartoon” or “cartooncore” interchangeably.

Remember to give the prompts a spin not only in Midjourney but other models like Stable Diffusion to see how they interpret the styles.
