5 Best Midjourney Prompts: July 2023
I'm back with the monthly dose of awesome modifiers to use for your Midjourney prompts.
Hope you’re all having an epic summer!
Technically, I’m still on vacation, but July wouldn’t be complete without the customary monthly round-up of the best Midjourney prompts.
Today’s collection is a bit eclectic and doesn’t follow a set theme like most recent editions (e.g. “photography,” “fun terms,” “the cores”).
But these are great descriptors with powerful effects. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun with them.
Let’s go!
Note: All sample images are generated using Midjourney Version 5.2.
Prompt #1: Compose scenes with glass shards
Shiny glass art in vibrant colors? Don’t mind if I do!
Midjourney prompt:
stained glass [subject]
What it does:
You’re most likely to have seen stained glass in vibrant scenes on church windows. That’s what it’s primarily used for. But anything made from colorful (or “stained”) glass pieces technically qualifies. Midjourney’s great at replicating that signature look.

Prompt #2: Mock up different design concepts
Want to see many variations of an item on a single page? Here you go.
Midjourney prompt:
[subject] concept sheet
What it does:
Often used for character design, a concept sheet typically contains multiple sketches of the main subject from different angles, in different poses, etc. Midjourney can successfully apply this to any term with neat results. The output isn’t consistent enough to have practical applications without further editing, but it’s fun to play with and may offer some inspiration.

Prompt #3: Create with unending patterns
Fans of fractals, this is for you.
Midjourney prompt:
fractal [subject]
What it does:
In art and colloquial use, fractals refer to objects drawn by repeating, “self-similar” patterns. While resulting Midjourney images cannot be strictly classified as fractal art, they’re definitely inspired by it. Using “fractal” as a modifier tends to create trippy and artistically pleasing structures.

Prompt #4: Turn anything into a movie scene
I really love the realistic yet unpredictable results you get with this one.
Midjourney prompt:
[subject] movie still
What it does:
This does lots of things at once: makes the image look photographic, adds cinematic lighting, and usually injects drama, emotion, or action into the scene. In short, your chosen subject will end up looking like a still from a movie. Go figure.
Sample images:
Prompt #5: Arrange items into pretty circles
The output here is just as mesmerizing as with the “fractal” term.
Midjourney prompt:
[subject] mandala
What it does:
While mandalas have a deeper spiritual meaning in several Eastern religions, in art terms they are instantly recognizable geometric arrangements popularized by mandala coloring books. They tend to have a single object in the center, surrounded by repeating motifs that spread outward and roughly form a circle. Midjourney is great at creating mandalas out of whatever you throw at it.

Over to you…
That’s a wrap, folks!
Remember to try these modifiers not only in Midjourney but Stable Diffusion and other text-to-art models to see how they interpret the styles.
